RAT PROOF YOUR ATTIC

Pure Eco Inc. provides professional rat-proofing services throughout Long Beach, combining entry-point exclusion with attic and crawl-space remediation. Rat proofing, the systematic identification and sealing of entry points, is the only permanent solution to rodents in the attic. Trapping and baiting manage populations, but do not stop new rodents from entering through the same gaps.

Long Beach has a rodent problem that is driven by its geography. The city sits adjacent to one of the world’s busiest ports, bordered by industrial corridors, rail yards, and the Los Angeles River channel. These features provide habitat, food sources, and travel routes for large populations of both roof rats and Norway rats. For homeowners, the consequences range from noise and odor to destroyed insulation, gnawed wiring, and health risks associated with rodent contamination in attics and crawl spaces. Stopping the cycle of infestation requires a specialized approach and a contractor who prioritizes long-term structural integrity over temporary fixes.

Pure Eco is a licensed contractor (Lic #993589). We back our exclusion work with a 100% satisfaction guarantee. We provide free consultations and upfront estimates before any project begins, maintaining an honest, no-pressure sales environment. Our experienced local team delivers fast, professional results that restore your home’s air quality and comfort.

WHY RAT PROBLEMS ARE COMMON IN LONG BEACH

The Port of Long Beach and the surrounding industrial infrastructure provide a baseline rodent population that is among the highest in Southern California. The LA River channel running through the northern edge of the city serves as a travel corridor that distributes rodents into residential neighborhoods. Rail yards and commercial corridors provide additional harborage close to housing.

Long Beach also has a large inventory of older homes with raised foundations. The crawl space vent openings in these homes provide direct access for rodents at ground level, while deteriorated roofline construction provides access at the attic. A home with both crawl space and attic entry points can sustain rodent populations that cycle between the two spaces.

The mild coastal climate means there is no winter die-off. Rodent populations that would decline in colder regions remain active year-round in Long Beach, and the city’s mature urban tree canopy, including fruit trees in residential yards, provides additional food sources that keep populations concentrated near homes.

Damaged attic insulation with rodent contamination

WHAT LONG BEACH HOMEOWNERS NEED TO KNOW ABOUT RAT PROOFING

Rat proofing in Long Beach is fundamentally different from pest control. Pest control manages the population inside the home. Rat proofing addresses the building envelope to prevent entry in the first place. Without exclusion, new rodents will enter through the same gaps regardless of how many are trapped or baited. Pairing rodent exclusion with a professional air sealing service closes the same structural gaps that allow both pest entry and conditioned air loss simultaneously.

The neighborhoods with the highest rodent activity in Long Beach tend to be the older areas closest to the port, the river, and the industrial corridors. Wrigley, Midtown, and the neighborhoods near downtown see consistently high rodent pressure. Bixby Knolls and California Heights, while further from the port, have aging roofline construction that creates abundant entry points. East Long Beach homes are generally newer with fewer structural entry points, but are still affected by the citywide rodent population.

WHAT THE SERVICE INVOLVES

  1. Inspection. We conduct a systematic exterior inspection of the home, covering the roofline, eaves, gable vents, foundation vents, pipe penetrations, and any areas with visible gaps or deterioration. We also inspect the attic and crawl space interiors to assess current rodent activity.
  2. Entry point identification and documentation. We document every identified entry point with photos, note the size and type of gap, and explain what is allowing access.
  3. Exclusion work. We seal all identified entry points using materials appropriate to each gap type. Vent openings are fitted with galvanized hardware cloth that rodents cannot chew through. We do not use materials that rodents can gnaw through or push past.
  4. Attic and crawl space remediation. Where rodent contamination is present, we remove damaged insulation, clean and sanitize the space, and install fresh insulation. This work can be coordinated as part of the same project.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

Effective rat proofing uses materials rated for permanent pest exclusion, not foam alone, not standard window screen, and not thin sheet metal. Our exclusion materials include galvanized hardware cloth with appropriate mesh size, sheet metal flashing for larger gap closures, and two-component foam used in combination with hardware cloth where needed for a complete seal. In the Long Beach coastal environment, all exterior materials are selected for corrosion resistance. We do not use poison baiting as part of our exclusion service.

WHAT TO EXPECT ON THE DAY

Rat-proofing projects vary in scope depending on the number and type of entry points found. A typical single-family Long Beach home takes four to eight hours for a thorough exclusion service. Older homes with both attic and crawl space entry points may take longer. Our crew works primarily on the exterior of the home and in the attic and crawl space. At completion, we walk you through all sealed entry points.

How do I know if I have rats in my Long Beach home?

Common signs of rats include scratching or movement sounds overhead or under the floor, a persistent ammonia-like odor, visible droppings in the attic, crawl space, or near the roofline, gnaw marks on wood or wiring, and damaged or disturbed insulation.

Will rat proofing stop all rodent entry?

A thorough exclusion seals all identified entry points at the time of service. We are comprehensive in our inspection, but homes continue to age, and new gaps can develop over time. We recommend periodic re-inspection.

Do you also remove rats that are already inside?

Our service focuses on exclusion and remediation of damage. For homes with an active infestation that needs to be cleared before exclusion work, we can coordinate with a licensed pest control operator.

My Long Beach home has both a crawl space and an attic. Do you seal both?

Yes. A comprehensive exclusion addresses entry points at every level of the home, including the foundation vents, the roofline, and any transitions in between.
