Rat proofing is structural exclusion, not pest control. Pure Eco focuses on the physical barrier component: finding and sealing the entry points. If active rats are present inside the home at the time of exclusion, population management through trapping may be needed in advance. We will advise on this during the inspection.
Beverly Hills has an independent building department. Most structural exclusion work does not require a permit. If work involves modification to roofing or eave elements that are part of the building envelope, we will assess permit requirements before proceeding.
We begin with a complete exterior inspection of the home, working from the roofline down to the foundation. We identify every potential entry point: roofline gaps, soffit connections, gable vents, plumbing and HVAC penetrations, foundation vents, utility entry points, and any area of deteriorated fascia, siding, or soffits. For older Beverly Hills homes, this inspection is thorough because the number of potential entry points is higher than in newer construction.
We also inspect the attic interior to confirm active activity and to locate the interior side of exterior entry points found during the inspection.
Entry points are sealed with materials appropriate to the location. Galvanized hardware cloth (1/4-inch) is used for vents and larger openings. Steel wool combined with caulk or foam is used for penetrations. Sheet metal flashing is used for roofline and eave connections. We do not use materials that rodents can chew through.
After sealing, we reinspect the entire exterior to confirm that all identified points have been addressed.
A standard Beverly Hills rat-proofing project takes a few hours. Larger estates, properties with complex rooflines, or hillside homes with extensive exterior surfaces may take longer. Most work is exterior. You do not need to vacate the home.

The most common pathway is from trees to rooflines, then through gaps at fascia connections, unscreened gable vents, and deteriorated soffit materials. Secondary pathways include plumbing and HVAC penetrations that were not sealed at installation, foundation vents with failed screens, and utility entry points. In older homes, any of these pathways may have been present and accessible for years.
Pest control manages the population through bait and trapping. Exclusion removes access to the structure. Both may be needed. Exclusion is the only approach that prevents re-entry regardless of the surrounding population. We focus on the structural exclusion component.
If your attic insulation has been contaminated by rodent activity, we recommend completing exclusion work first, then proceeding with attic cleaning and insulation replacement. Installing new insulation before sealing entry points will produce the same problem within months.
The materials we use are long-lasting and rodent-proof under normal conditions. Periodic reinspection after roofing work, tree trimming, or significant weather events is a reasonable maintenance practice to confirm that no new gaps have opened up.
