BLOWN-IN INSULATION INSTALLATION SERVICE

Pure Eco installs blown-in insulation throughout Santa Monica using professional-grade equipment and materials appropriate for California Climate Zone 6 conditions.

Blown-in insulation is the most effective solution for the majority of Santa Monica attics. It installs faster than batts, fills irregular framing and tight attic spaces more completely, and it settles to a uniform coverage. For coastal applications, blown-in fiberglass provides the moisture resistance that postwar fiberglass batts were never designed to maintain over decades of exposure to marine layers. For a city whose houses span several construction eras and whose climate places specific demands on insulation materials, blown-in is the most practical choice.

As a licensed contractor (Lic #993589), we remove the stress of home improvement with an immediate phone response and a free, honest consultation. You’ll receive a clear, written estimate with absolutely no pushy sales tactics, and every project is backed by our 100% satisfaction guarantee.

WHY BLOWN-IN IS THE RIGHT CHOICE FOR MOST SANTA MONICA ATTICS

Santa Monica attics present a specific set of installation challenges. The Craftsman and Spanish Colonial homes in Ocean Park, Sunset Park, and the older residential streets have low-slope roof sections, tight eave runs, and irregular framing geometries where batt installation either cannot be done correctly or cannot achieve uniform depth. The postwar tract homes in areas like Pico and the eastern residential neighborhoods have more standardized truss framing, but typically have HVAC equipment, ductwork, and decades of added electrical and plumbing runs that create obstructions where batts cannot seat. Blown-in handles all of these conditions.

The loose-fill material flows around obstructions, fills irregular cavities to uniform depth, and does not leave the gaps and voids that improperly fitted batts create. It is also the standard method for adding insulation over existing material when the existing insulation is in acceptable condition, and a full removal is not needed. Unlike installing fiberglass batts, you won’t need to tear down exterior siding or interior drywall.

WHAT SANTA MONICA HOMEOWNERS NEED TO KNOW ABOUT BLOWN-IN INSULATION

Santa Monica falls within California Title 24 Climate Zone 6. The minimum attic R-value for existing homes is R-30. The mild coastal climate can make the insulation case seem less urgent than in the Valley, but the return on investment is real: inadequately insulated homes run heating and cooling systems longer than necessary. In a city where energy-conscious homeowners are already considering solar, insulation is consistently the first improvement recommended before panels are installed.

The City of Santa Monica operates its own independent building department. Insulation projects may trigger permit requirements depending on the scope. The Santa Monica building department can confirm current thresholds before your project begins.

WHAT THE SERVICE INVOLVES

  1. We inspect your attic to determine current insulation depth and R-value, evaluate moisture conditions, identify any issues that need addressing before installation, and confirm that blown-in is the appropriate method for your attic.
  2. We install depth markers throughout the attic, maintain ventilation baffles at the eaves, and confirm the attic access point is adequate for our equipment.
  3. Air sealing. Before insulation goes in, we seal identified air leakage points at can lights, top plates, attic hatches, and plumbing and electrical penetrations.
  4. We run the blower equipment from outside the home, feeding material through a hose directed throughout the attic to the depth required to achieve the target R-value.
  5. We check coverage depth at multiple points, confirm that attic ventilation pathways are unobstructed, and document the final installed R-value.

MATERIALS

Blown-in fiberglass is our standard product for Santa Monica attics. It does not absorb moisture, does not support mold growth, and remains thermally stable across the humidity range that coastal attics experience. It installs to a uniform depth and fills the irregular cavity shapes common in Santa Monica’s older houses.

Blown-in cellulose is specified in specific applications where moisture conditions in the attic are well-controlled and dry. We assess each attic before recommending cellulose in a coastal setting.

WHAT TO EXPECT ON THE DAY

A blown-in insulation installation in a standard Santa Monica home takes a few hours. The blower unit stays outside or in the truck, with only the hose and installer in the attic. Living areas are not affected. When installation is complete, we remove all equipment, clean up, and walk you through the completed work.

Why do you prefer blown-in fiberglass over cellulose in Santa Monica?

Cellulose is a recycled paper product that can absorb moisture in humid environments. In a coastal climate like Santa Monica’s, with persistent marine layer humidity, fiberglass is the more appropriate choice because it does not absorb water and does not support mold growth the way that moisture-laden cellulose can.

What R-value should my Santa Monica attic have?

California Title 24 sets R-38 as the minimum for existing homes in Climate Zone 8 and R-49 as the recommended target. Even in a mild coastal climate, upgrading from R-11 or R-19 to R-38 or better produces measurable energy savings.

Can blown-in be installed over my existing insulation?

Yes, if the existing insulation is in acceptable condition. In Santa Monica, we evaluate existing insulation more carefully for moisture damage before recommending a top-off rather than a full replacement.

Does blown-in insulation block my attic vents?

No. We install baffles at eave vents to maintain the ventilation channel and verify all ventilation pathways are clear after installation.
