We install closed-cell spray foam (R-6 to R-7 per inch, vapor barrier function) and open-cell spray foam (R-3.6 to R-3.8 per inch, vapor-permeable) based on the application requirements. Closed-cell for rim joists, crawl spaces, and applications where moisture resistance and higher R-value per inch are priorities. Open-cell for large-area roof deck insulation where vapor permeability and economics favor it.

For homes with HVAC equipment in the attic, yes. Moving mechanical equipment inside the thermal envelope by insulating the roof deck reduces heat stress on the system, improves efficiency, and can extend equipment life. In the extreme heat of the interior Valley, that benefit is significant.
Post-earthquake repairs often addressed structural elements without completing the thermal envelope work. Spray foam can be used to address gaps and transitions created or exposed during those repairs that have been contributing to heat gain and air leakage ever since.
